My research addresses human trafficking, homelessness, interpersonal violence, and social work education, and aims to bridge academic theory with practical applications.

Researchers understand how risk and protective factors may influence sex trafficking risk for individuals. In this publication, I describe how the built and social environment may influence sex trafficking risk for entire communities.

Drawing from a series of program evaluations in nonprofits serving people experiencing homelessness, these publications describe the influence of trauma and secondary traumatic stress on the services available to vulnerable populations. The publications offer recommendations to administrators about how to embrace and implement trauma informed care.

Social workers want to reduce youth sex trafficking risk, and assess whether services may lead youth to exit sex trafficking for good. In this series of publications, I offer insight into how to build and manage effective anti-trafficking programs, and measure their effectiveness at reducing risk and re-trafficking. Insights were drawn from a anti-trafficking program evaluation.

In this auto-ethnographic piece, I describe the epistemological and ontological background of “anti-racist” and “anti-oppressive” practice, and discuss the potential consequences of this approach on social work education, research, and practice.
